Rising Damp
This is probably the most common source of damp in buildings. It is caused by water rising, through capillary action, in the porous material of which most walls are constructed. An efficient damp proof course will prevent moisture from rising but, in older houses, it may have broken down, or the house may have been built without one. BRIXHAM DAMP PROOFING have a range of systems available, allowing us to treat almost any type of wall construction. Properties that have suffered from rising damp usually need a certain amount of specialist re-plastering to eliminate the secondary problem of moisture-attracting mineral salts (hygroscopic salts) which so often contaminate plaster. BRIXHAM DAMP PROOFING have a full re-plastering service.
